The Hares Summer Song
Description:
The Hares Summer Song is a large vibrantly coloured semi-abstract landscape painting of a hare among red poppies with a pale summer moon above her. It is 36x36x1.5 inches. The painting was inspired by sightings of hares in the meadows near the South Downs one June. There is a magical aspect to hares and there is a lot of folklore surrounding them which is why when I spotted one, I felt like I was in a fairy story. Especially as she sat in a wildflower meadow with a pale moon above. I believe there is magic in nature and there is magic in the ancient landscapes of England which is something I try to capture when I paint based on a memory of somewhere. The style is semi-abstract art nouveau and was made by building glazes and texture which reflect different colours thought out the day. Stag in the Ether
Description:
Stag in the Ether is one of a series of semi-abstract paintings of a red deer stag. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The stag himself is painted in cool blues and purples and is seem emerging out of the ether from a warm red and orange background. The inspiration for this painting is simply an expression of the fascination I have for deer. They are often very elegant and appear and disappear at will which is why in folklore they are often portrayed as guides to the spirit world or to another universe. A nice idea I think! Summer Harbingers
Description:
Summer Harbingers is an explosive, expressive, joyful, energetic painting of poppies and swallows in the corner of a summer meadow. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting shows a bed of red poppies in the foreground in the shade of the tree behind them. The tree is spreading its branches in all directions and gives the painting a dynamism that sums up the feeling of the drama that plays out in summer meadow. Two swallows are adding their own slant to energy that is taking place. The painting style is semi-abstract art-nouveau. The inspiration for it was simply the happiness that I feel in countryside and corners of gardens in England when the sun is out and nature is showing off. It is impossible to capture all the life forms and their activities in the corner of a meadow as there is just too much of it so I have tried, instead, to capture the way it makes me feel. The Spell Caster
Description:
The Spell Caster is a warm, colourful autumn woodland path semi-abstract painting with barn owl. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is mostly orange and purple and though is clearly of woodland, it is built up with many transparent layers of rainbow colours and vertical marks and drips that give the painting the idea of it flickering in and out of a different reality. I find woodland magical and I find owls magical and I love autumn so this is the combination of those things. It was mostly inspired by some of areas of woodland around the Ashdown Forest in Sussex where you can go quite suddenly from a sunlight heathland into dark and sinister patches of dark forest. Follow the Dream
Description:
A golden, vibrantly coloured panoramic oil painting of the path through an ancient woodland in autumn. 40x16x1.5 inches. The painting technique is blurred and impasto and has a golden glow to it that changes throughout the day depending on the light. This painting almost vibrates with the promise of good things around the next bend. The inspiration was lots of woodland walks taken in autumn in the East Sussex area where the paths through the trees are often well worn and very old. Many were droversâ paths used for herding animals and the echoes of the past are very strong in some of them. I tried to capture the feeling of anticipation and hope of revelation that I often get when around trees and ancient forests. The title refers to the idea that it is a good idea to dream and that you may find what you are looking for around the next bend⦠Dedicated to nature conservationists everywhere. Painted on 3D canvas.
