Stag in the Ether is one of a series of semi-abstract paintings of a red deer stag. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The stag himself is painted in cool blues and purples and is seem emerging out of the ether from a warm red and orange background. The inspiration for this painting is simply an expression of the fascination I have for deer. They are often very elegant and appear and disappear at will which is why in folklore they are often portrayed as guides to the spirit world or to another universe. A nice idea I think! Summer Harbingers
Description:
Summer Harbingers is an explosive, expressive, joyful, energetic painting of poppies and swallows in the corner of a summer meadow. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting shows a bed of red poppies in the foreground in the shade of the tree behind them. The tree is spreading its branches in all directions and gives the painting a dynamism that sums up the feeling of the drama that plays out in summer meadow. Two swallows are adding their own slant to energy that is taking place. The painting style is semi-abstract art-nouveau. The inspiration for it was simply the happiness that I feel in countryside and corners of gardens in England when the sun is out and nature is showing off. It is impossible to capture all the life forms and their activities in the corner of a meadow as there is just too much of it so I have tried, instead, to capture the way it makes me feel. The White Horse Portal
Description:
The White Horse Portal is a large shimmering red and green, summertime and white horse inspired landscape painting. It is a 36x36x1.5 inches oil on canvas. The style is semi-abstract and ethereal. The painting shows a white horse looking out over a hazy abstracted landscape that hints of hills, trees, sea and summer trees. In the foreground are art-nouveau style poppies contrasted against a curtain of green foliage. A portal shows the mare and the clearing she stands in. The painting was made by layering transparent paint so that the verticals of it seem to shimmer and shift around a little as you look at it. The inspiration was a recent walk along the cliffs and hills and woodland glades of Dorset which are a little fairy tale-like in places. The Wild Wild Wood
Description:
The Wild Wild Wood is a semi abstract, art nouveau style painting of an autumn wood and a deer buck. It is 40x40 inches. The painting shows the view through trees on a path in a wood. There are a myriad of vibrant autumn colours and the patterns and curves created by the tree branches are quite art-nouveau in effect. There is a fallow deer buck emerging from branches and the hint of a path and other trees and a clearing beyond. I have tried to express the energy and colour explosion of a woodland by using just enough realism to show what the idea is. And the idea is how much there is to look at in a wood and how this can be expressed without painting every leaf and twig! The painting was inspired by many walks in ancient woodland and the thrill I get whenever I spot deer. Even though it is common to spot them, I still love these creatures and feel they are the real owners of trees and forests and should be respected. There is more story to this painting but viewers are free to make their own up. The Spell Caster
Description:
The Spell Caster is a warm, colourful autumn woodland path semi-abstract painting with barn owl. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is mostly orange and purple and though is clearly of woodland, it is built up with many transparent layers of rainbow colours and vertical marks and drips that give the painting the idea of it flickering in and out of a different reality. I find woodland magical and I find owls magical and I love autumn so this is the combination of those things. It was mostly inspired by some of areas of woodland around the Ashdown Forest in Sussex where you can go quite suddenly from a sunlight heathland into dark and sinister patches of dark forest. Follow the Dream

A golden, vibrantly coloured panoramic oil painting of the path through an ancient woodland in autumn. 40x16x1.5 inches. The painting technique is blurred and impasto and has a golden glow to it that changes throughout the day depending on the light. This painting almost vibrates with the promise of good things around the next bend. The inspiration was lots of woodland walks taken in autumn in the East Sussex area where the paths through the trees are often well worn and very old. Many were droversâ paths used for herding animals and the echoes of the past are very strong in some of them. I tried to capture the feeling of anticipation and hope of revelation that I often get when around trees and ancient forests. The title refers to the idea that it is a good idea to dream and that you may find what you are looking for around the next bend⦠Dedicated to nature conservationists everywhere. Painted on 3D canvas.
