Stag in the Ether is one of a series of semi-abstract paintings of a red deer stag. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The stag himself is painted in cool blues and purples and is seem emerging out of the ether from a warm red and orange background. The inspiration for this painting is simply an expression of the fascination I have for deer. They are often very elegant and appear and disappear at will which is why in folklore they are often portrayed as guides to the spirit world or to another universe. A nice idea I think! Autumn Beckons
Description:
Autumn Beckons is an expressive, semi-abstract original oil painting of an Autumn path. It is 36x36x1.5 inches. The painting focuses on the centre of the painting where light is radiating out beneath the trees. It hints at revelation or hope or some kind of promise â or at least that is what it says to me! The painting was inspired by actual autumn walks in an around the Ashdown Forest (of Winnie the Pooh fame) and the Weald of Sussex where there are plenty of woodlands and copses and nooks and crannies that I never tire of exploring in different seasons. Summer Spirit
Description:
Summer Spirit is an hazy abstract landscape oil painting that hints of a shadowy late summer meadow and trees. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. A transparent swallow can be seen to the right and behind her you can see the suggestion of out of focus flowers, trees and a meadow. It captures a moment from a summer walk in Mayfield â made from memory which retains the feel of it more that the accuracy of the meadow I was in. The colours range through violet, green, yellow, pink and blue. The aim of this painting was to express the sensation of looking at a landscape with eyes partly shut. The swallow is the spirit of summer as they come to the UK during summertime and represent summer to me. Summer Dance over the Meadow
Description:
Summer Dance is a semi-abstract, art-nouveau style oil painting of a summer meadow with swallows dancing over it and forming patterns in the landscape. It is 24x18x1.5 inches. The painting was made after much walking around in meadows in Sussex during June and July watching swallows swooping and diving for the insects that gather over the wild flowers and trees. Swallows move so fast they are hard to keep track of and they tend leave patterns on the eyes (mine anyway) which adds to the feeling of energy that I tried to capture in this painting. An Awakening
Description:
An Awakening is an original oil painting of a female deer in a landscape of lakes, mountains and forests. It is 36x30x1.5 inches. The painting is in semi-abstract, art nouveau and totally unique in style. A female fallow deer stands to the left having emerged from the trees with the hint of a lake and mountains beyond her. Vertical layering of transparent golden paint glazes makes the scene shimmer and reflect different colours when viewed at different angles which gives it a jewel like quality. The deer looks as if she is wondering about her life. A nice idea, although she is probably just wondering what to eat next, but I liked the idea that she could dream as humans do (and how do we know she canât?...) Echoes of Summer

Echoes of Summer is an expressive art nouveau style oil painting showing the echoes of swallows in the corner of a meadow. It is 35.5x47x0.5 inches (120x90x1.5cm) semi abstract, decorative and vibrantly coloured. The painting shows elegantly placed trees and flowers with the outlines of swallows diving over them. It is called echoes of summer as this is what swallows are in the UK as they only spend their summerâs here before returning to Africa or Europe. I am always sad to see them go as it means the fragrant heady summer days of birdsong and insect buzzing are over far too soon! Finding a Melody
Description:
Finding a Melody is a vibrantly coloured abstract style oil painting in magical realism style. It is 40x30x1.5inches. The overlapping layers of paint and glazes give this painting an energy and movement which reveals different colours and aspects as the light around it changes. I felt I could hear music as a painted it and it does actually remind me of sheet music â hence the title! Although it stands between abstract and realism, it is still a woodland scene with trees and flowers and a stream or pond hinted at. A small deer stag can be seen watching from the other side of the stream. The colours are placed so that they will complement each other and the vertical lines give the feel of something transcending. Beltane
Description:
Beltane is a large panoramic oil painting of a woodland glade in springtime with a stream running through it with the hint of bluebells, wildflowers and blossom trees. It is 60x36x1.5 inches. The style of the painting is contemporary with art nouveau elements to it. The viewer is transported into the landscape between two shady banks on either side of a stream with the bluebells and blossom and a clearing beyond. A meadow can be glimpsed through the trees and it shimmers with the possibility of something about to be revealed. I called it Beltane (an ancient celebration of the start of summer made on May 1st) as I was in the area that inspired this painting for me on that day in 2025 (Mayfield in Sussex). I love the birdsong and the abundance of nature in May and could well believe myself transported to some otherworldly place when I was looking at this. It is dedicated to all those with a romantic soul who love landscapes and nature and feel they sound be protected. One Enchanted Summer
Description:
One Enchanted Summer is a multicoloured semi-abstract landscape painting of a summer meadow with trees and swallows. It is 48x36x1.5 inches. The painting looks entirely abstract from a distance as a myriad of colours burst outwards from the middle of the canvas in pinks, greens, purples, deep blues and yellows. When you look closer however, you see that there are two dancing swallows and pink wildflowers against a backdrop of dark trees with hints at fields beyond them through gaps in the branches. The inspiration for this painting was exploring the many nooks and crannies of the Mayfield and Burwash areas of East Sussex where the viewpoints change swiftly from the streams in the gullies to the rolling hills and small meadows and ancient trees shaped by sheep and deer and old houses and farms that retain their medieval flavour. I often feel I could come across portals to other worlds and enjoy this fantasy as I walk. I think I have conveyed this feeling well in this painting!
