Under Sea Rebel
Description:
Under Sea Rebel is a large blue and turquoise underwater seascape painting of a queen angel fish in a pristine Caribbean Sea. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The fish swims along intent on her goal and above her you can see the swirling surface of the rippling waves. Below her are the patterns of light that reflect from their motion across a sandy seabed. Behind the fish is the darker blue of deeper water in the distance. This painting was inspired by a recent Aruba holiday where I often saw this actual fish swimming around a particular jetty. I like the idea of the freedom she had if she could only continue to escape the tourists and fishermen. This is another in a series of underwater paintings inspired by the sheer beauty of a blue sea and the fish that live in it. Once Upon a Time
Description:
Once Upon a Time is a large oil painting of a colourful woodland path watched over by a small deer where strange things are about to happen. It is 48x48x1.5 inches. The painting shows an autumnal woodland path leading to a light filled clearing. The path is enticing and will lead you to the thing you most want to see there. To the left is a small female deer. Deer are often seen as spiritual harbingers or guides. The painting style is semi-abstract art nouveau and was simply inspired by the thrill I personally get when I walk from an ancient English wood into a light filled clearing. It is often magical and I often feel as if a revelation is about to happen. I am not sure of the basis of that feeling but I am not along in finding Nature quite magical and woodland walking quite therapeutic! Stag Materializing
Stag Materializing is an oil painting of a red deer stag painted in a semi abstract style and in vibrant rainbow colours. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting is multilayered and multicoloured but the predominate colours are purples and oranges. The face and antlers of the stag are painted in a portrait style but the body becomes more and more transparent as it recedes into the strange space of the background. To the right is the hint of a pine tree. The painting was made as I sometimes really just want to paint a beautiful animal. The Spell Caster
Description:
The Spell Caster is a warm, colourful autumn woodland path semi-abstract painting with barn owl. It is 30x30x1.5 inches. The painting is mostly orange and purple and though is clearly of woodland, it is built up with many transparent layers of rainbow colours and vertical marks and drips that give the painting the idea of it flickering in and out of a different reality. I find woodland magical and I find owls magical and I love autumn so this is the combination of those things. It was mostly inspired by some of areas of woodland around the Ashdown Forest in Sussex where you can go quite suddenly from a sunlight heathland into dark and sinister patches of dark forest. Follow the Dream

A golden, vibrantly coloured panoramic oil painting of the path through an ancient woodland in autumn. 40x16x1.5 inches. The painting technique is blurred and impasto and has a golden glow to it that changes throughout the day depending on the light. This painting almost vibrates with the promise of good things around the next bend. The inspiration was lots of woodland walks taken in autumn in the East Sussex area where the paths through the trees are often well worn and very old. Many were droversâ paths used for herding animals and the echoes of the past are very strong in some of them. I tried to capture the feeling of anticipation and hope of revelation that I often get when around trees and ancient forests. The title refers to the idea that it is a good idea to dream and that you may find what you are looking for around the next bend⦠Dedicated to nature conservationists everywhere. Painted on 3D canvas. Somewhere in an Autumn Clearing
Description:
This oil painting is 40x40x1.5 inches and shows a glowing autumn landscape with two swallows playing in a clearing. It is semi abstract in style and painted using techniques that allow the viewer a glimpse of a little magical universe. The energy and the drama of an autumn clearing and trees is shown in the flow lines and blurred edges and other whimsical flourishes. The colours range through purple, blue, magenta, orange and golden yellow. The two swallows are swooping and diving in a clearing beyond a tree on the left and a patch of golden green meadow and more trees beyond. The Thin Place Beckons
Description:
The Thin Place Beckons is a very large semi-abstract original oil painting showing deer gathering beyond a lake in a heart shaped forest at twilight. It is 48x48x1.5 inches. It was made with liberal amounts of white, golden yellow, peach and purple paint with cyan blue for accent. The inspiration was the definition of the word âthin placeâ which is a Celtic expression for a place that stands between two universes. This is an idea I have always loved and the deer appear often in my paintings as in other folklore they are regarded as harbingers or guides between worlds. Because the paint is multilayered and oil colours do change quite dramatically in different light, (something that delighted me when I saw it in this painting), it will go from muted neutral colours to luminous sunset ones at different times of the day. I am satisfied I caught some of the magic I was trying to catch in this painting and hope that whoever buys it will have magic too. The Song of the Deer is a colourful semi abstract oil painting of a group of deer in an autumn wood. It is 40x30x1.5 inches. The painting shows a fallow deer buck next to a pine tree as he looks towards three female deer in a clearing to his left and above him. The painting is very colourful and has a slightly fairy tale feeling to it - there is clearly a story (or song) going on between the male and the female deer. The inspiration for the painting was a walk I took in Knole Park, Sevenoaks one autumn where there is a long grassy valley between heathland and forest where the deer can be heard calling to each other during breeding season. The stag in this painting is one I followed for a while up a slope through some ferns which were in full autumn mode of gold, orange and green. Behind him I could see a small bunch of females appearing and disappearing out of the forest and ferns and I felt happy to be witnessing a cycle of nature that is timeless and fascinating to see. Tiger in the Ether

Tiger in the Ether is a 40x40x1.5 inches purple oil painting of a semi-abstract art-nouveau style tiger against an abstract background. The style is slightly art nouveau and makes use of the complementary colours of purple with yellow and orange with blue which makes the colours very vibrant and almost mystical. The background hints at trees and light behind them but is quite abstract. The tiger herself has a pensive expression and looks kinder than most tigers. A Day in December
Description:
A Day in December is a large oil painting of a pheasant in a winter woodland. It is 40x40x1.5 inches. The painting is impressionistic, art nouveau and contemporary in style and is a capture of a day I spent in December last year in Friston Forest near Seaford. Autumn was very late and there were still leaves on the trees but the sun was very low so all kinds of interesting colours were circulating between warm and cold under the tree cover and this is what I wanted to catch. The pheasant is just a gorgeous twit who looked perfect in the composition as he contains the colours around him and is very much a part of the landscape. This particular part of the forest is a favourite of mine as still retains a faintly ethereal and magical quality.
