Something a little different to my norm.. I really enjoyed creating this small series of abstract paintings.. I have used oil paints on a black background, and merged all of the colours together as I have painted.. This canvas measures 80cm x 60cm but you could turn it the other way up if you chose! Its been strung and varnished and is ready to hang.
Everyday Magic - a semi abstract forest landscape with birds
40 x 40 x 1.5 inches large original oil painting of a semi abstract forest with two bullfinches. The style is slightly art nouveau (organic forms in a pattern) and the colours range from purple, amethyst, magenta, orange and rose red through to Indian yellow and gold. The background trees and light through the forest is deliberately blurred to make it look out of focus whilst in the foreground two red bullfinches are in sharp focus as a contrast to the background. I often walk in Sussex woodland and often see these birds. I find the little flashes of colour and beautiful song quite magical. I wonder what magic they are creating when there are no humans around to notice it. This is another in a series of paintings I have been working on that are portals to another place. I like that it can be on a wall and provide an exit when you need to get away for while. It is on deep edge canvas, white edges, frame not necessary.
Nebulous Forest - a semi abstract landscape
40 x 40 x 1.5 inches large original oil painting of a semi abstract forest. Two pheasants fly into the forest and mimic the colours that can be seen in the forest. The rainbow colours are very vibrant and and have been blended and blurred to give an out of focus affect. It is the sort of place that may be of this world but could also be on another planet entirely. It is only the pheasants (who are nice but dim) who keep it in England. It was painted after a walk I had in the woods near a village called Warbleton in East Sussex. A lovely area where it is easy to forget what year or even what century we are in. I think this is why the painting is quite ethereal. It is on deep edge canvas, white edges, frame not necessary.
Ocean Calling - blue sea seascape
A 36 x 48 x 1.5 inches large original seascape painting of a lady on a beach by a blue sea. The tiny figure stands at the edge of the white foam as the waves are pulling back. She is being drawn into the sea and the painting does have a real pull to it which makes it a little scary but also quite inviting. The water is turquoise, aqua and blue and the sand is pale. It is painted in thick paint in an expressionist semi abstract style. It reflects the feeling of fear mixed with fascination that the sea has and was inspired after a stay I had in Florida in January 2017. Most people love the sea and this it is because of the space plus energy that it gives to you when to look at it, smell the salt and listen to the rhythm of it. Painted on deep edge canvas, edges white, ready to hang, no frame needed.
Abstract artwork on standard edge box canvas. This is done via a pouring acrylics method, and is varnished ready to hang. The edges match the front and it can be framed or hung as it is. This work is 9.5 inches high by 12 inches wide as displayed but can be hung in any direction. Varnished and ready to hang. Postage to mainland UK is included, postage abroad can be quoted for on request.
Little Robin Red Breast
This jolly painting was inspired by a short surreal verse written by myself as follows: Little robin red breast sitting on a treasure chest. The donkeys came along singing a jolly song and the crabs were knitting a vest. It is painted on watercolour paper in mixed media and collage and is framed in a 18 x 14 inch wooden frame as illustrated in the photograph. If you would like it unframed please contact me also if you are interested in a gift voucher/certificate.
A Summer Place
A large 36 x 48 x 1.5 inches semi abstract original oil painting of a summer landscape. I called it 'a summer place' after a song I used to love as a little kid - I can hear this song when I look at the painting. The landscape shows three swallows swooping over the scene with red reeds or poppies, a lake, some pine trees and the sea. It is art nouveau and decorative but also quite painterly and abstract. I painted it after a visit to the Cuckmere river in Sussex and tried to capture the gorgeous ecstatic enthusiasm of the wildlife and birds there as they follow the river to the sea. I was quite happy to be there myself :-)
