Artist Biography:
My paintings fall into two distinct categories, semi abstract and symbolic.
Whilst I have been painting sea and landscapes for over twenty years, the symbolic art is older and has evolved from childhood graffiti and school book doodles into what you see here today.
A diagnosis of uterine sarcoma in 2002 followed by two more recurrences, changed my life and helped me to see that life, although precious, is not to be taken too seriously.
I use a watercolour and ink technique for the symbolic paintings for ethereal effect that can be achieved by transparent layering whilst the joy I feel around all things coastal is conveyed in my seascapes and skies. In those I strive for an 'other world' effect using oil paint to give strong, resonant colour over semi abstract images.
