Artist Biography:
Seascapes and Figureshapes
All my paintings come from my imagination although of course they are informed by observation and many years of drawing and sketching – of live models and of my surroundings here in beautiful Stonehaven. Here is where the light frequently changes, the sea remains reassuringly constant and yet damningly challenging, the buildings are full of character and the characters so very friendly: I cannot think of a better place to inspire me.
The life studies you see here, including charcoal drawings and some nudes painted on paper or canvas, are created in front of a live model in a short 10 or 20 minute pose but have taken years of practise to achieve in that short window of time.
I make the black line drawings straight from imagination when the urge takes me: bold sweeping lines on the paper. I’ve been called ‘fast and loose’ as an artist. You won’t find photographic work here but this is original fine art, full of colour and very unusual.
