Anticipation...

Title: Anticipation...
Description: Anticipation... is a 24x18x1.5 inches oil on canvas of a rainbow coloured abstract autumn forest path. It is another in a series of paintings of glowing autumn paths based on place near Sharpthorne and the Bluebell Railway in Sussex. I love the idea of paintings being portals to other places and this one looks quite magical to me. I called it 'anticipation' as that is what a good country walk delivers. You become fascinated by what is over the next hill or through the next forest. It never ceases to thrill me and I have tried to capture my enthusiasm in this little painting. It is dedicated to anyone else who would like to escape into it occasionally. It is on deep edge canvas, edges white, ready to hang, no frame needed.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
