A Piece of Magic - a pink abstract painting with birds and wildflowers

Title: A Piece of Magic - a pink abstract painting with birds and wildflowers
Description: A Piece of Magic is a 30x40x1.5 inches original oil painting of two nuthatch birds in the corner of a wildflower field at dawn. It is art nouveau, semi abstract, and part traditional in style and was inspired by me spotting one of these little birds on a tree trunk for the first time recently. They are small and elusive and very endearing little birds but quite hard to see as they are so small. The background of this painting is pink, lilac, light blue, golden yellow and white and is my attempt to hint at sun through a tangle of meadow of flowers in May at dawn. I observe what I see around me as I walk through the landscape but do not try to capture botanical accuracy. Instead I paint the impression formed on my memory from something I have seen and want to share. For this reason the birds are painted fairly realistically but their little corner of a field is only hinted at as it easier for me to show the feeling of it this way. Paintings are little worlds presented by artists to show what they find beautiful or ugly about the world. I prefer to concentrate on the beauty of this world rather than the ugly and I love how nature is permanently performing beautiful little scenarios like this, available to anyone who makes the effort to go and look. This painting is on deep edge canvas, white edges, no frame needed, ready to hang.

Artist Biography:

I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.

My art is painted mostly from memory after having visited somewhere beautiful and are an attempt to capture some of the essence of that place.

I gained a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90s, after painting my 200th labrador, I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.

My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco, art nouveau and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.

I like to think that paintings have little souls woven into them by artists and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.

My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same even if only for a little while.
